This movie makes me think of Cronenberg's The Fly (1986). But it has a political message that portrait us the way we could be in dire situations.
District 9 is not really a common movie. The Peter Jackson production is something that gets your attention. But there is more to it.
Social segregation was something that Apartheid in South Africa made its basic political agenda. Johannesburg was a natural option as the city was aliens should land to show humanity as a bunch of racist or xenophobic species.
Making it a fake documentary enhances the power of the narration as a realistic situation. To tell you the truth, I feel more sympathetic with the Prawn (the disgusting name that humans use to call the aliens, as in being a plague) than with humans. The aliens are some kind of worker ants, not very intelligent in more cases, but their society is not really well explained. I think there is room for a second part.

Wikus van de Merwe (Sharlto Copley has the role of his life in this movie. Unforgettable) has to travel the same path as Gregor Samsa in Kafka's Metamorphosis and suffers the same discrimination from his family and fellow humans because he is no longer a pure being. He is a Hybrid. And that is not acceptable to anyone in this film.
The end of the movie is a little weak. Too much expectative unaccomplished. But it doesn’t matter. It was a great fun movie.

La película me encantó, le echaré un ojo a la serie.
No me atrevo a escribir ni una pañabra en inglés que no se ni pronunciar google talk, yo que me metía un dulce en la boca y todo para que sonara más raro.

Es una película original y sugerente con un mensaje muy claro contra cualquier forma de discriminación en la que el director se permite una licencia a la que muy pocos directores se han atrevido: tomar claro partido por los aliens.
Hacer que el espectador se identifique con el punto de vista de seres excéntricos, radicalmente diferentes pero quizás más humanos que los propios humanos, es un reto que consigue este director identificando a los "bichos" con las capas de nuestra población que viven en condiciones infrahumanas.
Sin duda el líder de la revuelta alienígena es un trasunto de Nelson Mandela y no es casualidad que todos los jefes de la represión sean blancos.
No la he visto aun, pero estamos deseando hincarle el diente.
Me gustó mucho, buena idea y muy bien el personaje principal.
Juan, no sabía que la continuación iba a ser una serie. Estás más informado que yo. No te preocupes por lo del inglés, es un deporte mío como otro cualquiera. (Y con decir "gugel toc" ya está, jeje).
Doctor, me pusiste sobre aviso de esta película y te lo agradezco. No estaba muy convencido al principio. Aunque el punto de vista alien está mejor tratado, la posibilidad de verlos como bichos despreciable (como langostas que se comen las cosechas) es facilísimo. Un buen test para detectar el racismo. Por lo que fuese, no me costó nada ponerme del lado de los extraterrestres, aunque eran muy difíciles. Convivir con ellos sería muy complicado. Y el empleo de Sudáfrica ha sido todo un acierto. Facilita mucho la comprensión de la película.
Creo que te va a gustar, Candela. Es buena película, no sólo por el mensaje. Pero, como digo en el articulito, tiene sus puntos flojos, especialmente al final.
Antares, coincido contigo. La elección del protagonista y del actor que lo encarna ha sido todo un acierto.
