Well, let’s dedicate this post to one of my favourite bands of all time. Being a multi-player interested in great performances, Dream Theatre is a natural option.
Mike Portnoy is so good that his almost impossible to replicate parts looks like an easy two-step drums part. And he does that with an smile. I spend a lot of time listening and studying his parts and ideas.
Jordan Rudess has an smooth technical keyboard playing that sometimes looks like classical playing, but he rocks like hell!
John Petrucci is one of the finest guitarists ever. And not many mistakes can be listen in his live recording. He is that accurate.
John Myung is the perfect match to Petrucci’s guitar. And I love his bass. John Patticucci plays the same Yamaha model. Both of them have an special edition available.
And James LaBrie, the singer of an All-Star instrumentist band has the privilege of knowing what to do while his fellow musicians plays their long solos. I watched him while playing live and he enjoyed the show as much as the audience, knowing how to improve the show, so focused in the quality of the performance. He rocks and sings with a well-educated voice that works perfectly along the band tunes.
But when they are together, they are better being a band than a complex mixture of great musicians. They are Dream Theatre and Rock’s Dream Team. Here is the video of their lattest album’s hit song.

Lyrics:
This is the new world order
Played upon our fears
Spreading accusations
Of radical ideas
The brotherhood of wisdom
Strength and dignity
Its rituals and secrets
Remain a mystery
Beneath the ever watchful eye
The angels of the temple fly
Turn the key walk, through the gate
The great ascent to reach a higher state
A rite of passage
The final stage, a sacred home
Unlock the door and lay the corner stone
A rite of passage
Men of wealth and power
Influence and fame
Philosphers and leaders
Are members of the trade
Bound by oath and honor
Like the rose and cross
An enigmatic union
Of esoteric thought
Beneath the ever watchful eye
The angels of the temple fly
Turn the key, walk through the gate
The great ascent to reach a higher state
A rite of passage
The final stage, a sacred home
Unlock the door and lay the corner stone
A rite of passage
Turn the key, walk through the gate
The great ascent to reach a higher state
A rite of passage
The seven stars, the rising sun
A perfect world, a new life has begun
A rite of passage

And I added this video of the recording of this fine album. Take a good look at the names that appear in the sequencer. Not many bands are capable of gathering so many Grade-A musicians around them.
Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos
The technically proficient guitar playing of John Petrucci elevated Dream Theater to the upper echelons of contemporary heavy metal. While its lineup has continuously evolved, the Long Island-based quintet has consistently delivered sharp-edged music. Dream Theater is known for its high-energy concert performances. The group took on the name "Dream Theater," inspired by a now-demolished California movie theater.
