Reptoids Under Pittsburgh 3

Reptoids Under Pittsburgh

Session 3: Flash and Flight

Posted by The Game Master | Category: Campaign Playthrough

Danny was flat on his back, staring up into a maw of razor-sharp teeth dripping with dark slime. The monster raised a heavy claw to strike. Seeing her date seconds away from becoming a subterranean snack, Sally didn't freeze. Her mind raced, remembering the game instructions: these creatures have glowing yellow eyes that adapt to the absolute dark of the sewers. Bright light had to be their weakness.

With lightning-fast reflexes, she snatched her smartphone from her pocket, swiped blindly to open the camera app, and set the strobe flash to maximum toggle. Stepping right into the creature's peripheral vision, she thrust the phone forward like a holy symbol.

“Hey, reptile! Smile for the camera!” she screamed.

🎲 Sally's Quick-Thinking Roll (Level 1 Intellect Check - 3d6)

Target: Sally's Intellect (IT) is 12. She needs to roll 12 or less to time the flash perfectly.

The Dice: [2] + [4] + [4] = 10

Modifiers: Sally applies her Notice Details (Lv1) talent to exploit the creature's physical traits, letting her subtract 1 from the total.

Final Total: 10 - 1 = 9

Result: 9 is well under 12. SUCCESS! A blinding white burst of LED light pierces the dim alleyway!

Experience Gained: Target (12) - Final Roll (9) = 3 EP earned for Sally.

The high-intensity flash exploded directly into the Reptoid's sensitive, dark-adapted yellow eyes. The effect was instantaneous. The creature let out a high-pitched, agonizing shriek, dropping its raised claw to clutch at its face. It reeled backward, snapping its jaws blindly as it hissed in absolute disorientation, temporarily blinded by the modern technology.

“Danny, get up! Move!” Sally yelled, grabbing him by the collar of his jacket and pulling with all her might.

Danny, nursing bruised shins but thoroughly alive, didn't need to be told twice. He scrambled backward on his hands and knees, grabbing his makeshift club from the gutter as he scrambled back to his feet. The alley was clear behind them, but the monster was already swinging its tail wildly in its blindness, starting to regain its bearings by scent alone.
