Duran Duran, Save a Prayer and The Wild Boys.

Duran Duran released this incredible song as part of the Rio album. But the version I listen the most was in Arena, played live. A curious thing is that this song didn’t reach the number one in the singles charts. It was second only to The Eye of The Tiger.

The band played with their original members: singer Simon Le Bon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, bassist John Taylor, drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Andy Taylor (I own a rare Andy Taylor’s solo album).

The catchy keyboard tune runs through the song and it is accompanied by a second tune that could be heared in every chorus. Everybody adds innovative parts of their own and the song is something one must listen several times to get all the enormous work the band emanated into the song.

The band’s biggest hit. The Wild boys came from a William Burroughs novel that director Russell Mulcahy (the same that directed Save a Prayer and the motion picture Highlander). A million dollar fee and a cool video as a result.

It was so rocker that it is easy not to notice that the guitar takes it time to be incorporated into the song. Simon Le Bon fights with his own lyrics and that’s the power of the song. And the drums. Roger Taylor is to be credited with this amazing performance.

But I must say that John Taylor and Nick Rhodes are my real heroes of the band. What amazing musicians they are.
