Realizing that Niles is desperately flagging from his injuries and that hostile patrols still roam the lower levels, the party executes a flawless sequence to secure their hard-won prize and buy vital time. Darkblade swiftly slams the heavy iron vault door shut, driving the latch home and barricading the entrance to guarantee an uninterrupted short rest. Safe within the room, Thaddeus utilizes the chieftain's luxurious fur pelts alongside a soothing herbal poultice to bind the halfling rogue's cracked ribs, safely tending his wounds and restoring his flagging vitality.
While Niles rests and Thaddeus begins meditating quietly to recover his expended magical reserves, Elanna and Darkblade unceremoniously crack open the heavy, brass-bound treasure chests lining the walls. Propped against a bundle of furs, Niles coordinates their search with a lucky guess; their looting uncovers a magnificent hoard consisting of 250 glimmering gold pieces, an ornate silver-plated chalice, and a glowing crimson glass vial containing a Potion of Greater Healing. The party breathes a collective sigh of relief as their heavy coin purses are filled to bursting.
With a peaceful hour slipping safely by, a visibly rejuvenated Niles stretches his newly mended limbs and sets to work meticulously inspecting the stonework behind the chieftain's iron throne. His sharp fingers trace the ancient masonry until they catch a hidden groove, pressing a concealed stone mechanism that swivels a massive wall section smoothly inward. A blast of fresh, crisp air greets the adventurers, revealing a dust-laden secret passage that winds upward through the bedrock and emerges directly onto the sunlit surface hills, completely bypassing the remaining goblin forces.
