Niles infiltrated the rafters above the chieftain's vault to establish a tactical layout. Acting on his signal, Darkblade kicked the iron door off its hinges while Thaddeus caught the defenders completely by surprise with a brilliant, blinding explosion of a Color Spray spell.
Thaddeus quickly pushes through the smoking threshold, thrusting his staff forward to manifest an intricate arcane barrier meant to split the room in two. However, the unstable magical current tears away from his grip; a critical failure on his Arcana check causes the containment spell to pop and fizzle out into harmless, drifting lavender sparks. Pivoting instantly to their pre-planned tactical contingency plan as the two massive dire wolves shake off the flash and snap back to snarling awareness, Elanna and Darkblade alter their forward charges to violently intercept the beasts before they can reach the wizard.
The front-line clash is immediate and thunderous. Darkblade leads with a brutal, shield-first smash that catches the alpha wolf square across the snout, sending teeth and frothing saliva flying as the beast's jaws rattle from the blunt impact. Simultaneously, Elanna twists her torso and swings her heavy greatsword in a devastating, crescent-shaped cleave. The silvered steel shears cleanly through the second hound's thick flank, leaving it whimpering and hobbled on the blood-slicked stone flagstones.
High above the carnage, Niles capitalizes perfectly on the distraction. Coiling his enhanced muscles on the dusty wooden beam, the halfling rogue drops down from the rafters like a plunging gargoyle. He falls squarely onto the shoulders of the still-blinded Bugbear Chieftain, sinking both of his jagged daggers deep into the thick muscles of the monster's neck. A deafening, guttural roar of absolute agony reverberates through the treasury chamber as the chieftain thrashes wildly, trying to throw off his tiny, lethal assassin.
• Tactical Pivot: Contingency plan activated (Option B). Fighters target the awakened guard hounds.
• Darkblade: Shield Bash vs. Wolf 1. Roll: 16 + 4 = 20 vs. AC 12 (Hit!). Deals 5 bludgeoning damage and stuns movement.
• Elanna: Greatsword Cleave vs. Wolf 2. Roll: 19 + 4 = 23 (Critical Threat!). Deals 11 slashing damage; Wolf 2 is severely crippled.
• Niles: Plunge Sneak Attack vs. Blinded Chieftain. Roll: 17 + 4 = 21 vs. Flat-Footed AC 13 (Hit!). Deals 13 piercing damage!
