Elanna and Darkblade effectively brought down the massive dire wolves guarding the treasury vault. However, the cornered bugbear chieftain retaliated in a berserk fury, ripping Niles from his back and slamming him violently to the floor.
Scrambling to his feet in a breathless panic, Niles channels the final, residual kinetic magic of his fading alchemical elixir to execute a high-speed, dizzying tumble across the stones. Seeking to guarantee the rogue's narrow escape, Thaddeus leaps directly into the fray with a bold Wizard's Gambit, screaming ancient academic curses and swinging his iron-shod quarterstaff in wide arcs to pull the lumbering brute's blurry focus away from the floor. The frantic distraction works flawlessly; Niles slides smoothly beneath the wizard's defensive stance, moving completely clear of the chieftain's reach.
With the hulking brute's attention fatally split and his magical blindness finally dispersing, Elanna and Darkblade seize the critical tactical opening to execute a coordinated, lethal vanguard strike. Darkblade steps inside the chieftain's guard, delivering a crushing low kick to the beast's knee that forces his massive frame to buckle. Moving in perfect symmetry, Elanna swings her heavy greatsword over her shoulder and drives the silvered blade forward in a powerful, singular thrust, piercing straight through the Bugbear Chieftain's reinforced leather breastplate.
The monumental force of the blow drives the chieftain backward, pinning him directly to the ancient flagstones of his own treasury vault. He slumps motionless against the stone floor, his dropped battleaxe clattering away into the darkness as his deep, guttural breathing ceases entirely. Silence washes over the blood-spattered chamber, broken only by the crackle of the stone brazier and the ragged breathing of the triumphant adventurers. The tyrannical master of the ruined tower has fallen, leaving the subterranean vault completely open to the victors.
• Thaddeus: Help Action / Distraction maneuver (Option C). Success guarantees advantage for the front line.
• Darkblade: Called Shot (Knee Strike). Lowers the target's effective Armor Class.
• Elanna: Greatsword Attack (Option A). Roll: Natural 20 (Critical Hit!). Deals 22 piercing damage.
• Combat Resolution: Bugbear Chieftain defeated. Threat level reduced to zero.
