Tether: Session 12 - The Water Wheel Trap & Timber Collapse
Click to expand previous episode recap
Heart hammering against my ribs, I watched as Victoria's improvised technological trap near the old water wheel finally clicked into place. With a swift movement, I triggered the device, releasing a blinding, unnatural flash of modern light that momentarily stunned the encroaching shadows. In that same instant, the metallic token left behind by Madelaine began to vibrate fiercely, projecting a faint, glowing acoustic echo of her voice across the decades to reveal the exact sequence required to neutralize the entity's core.
But the dark beast would not be cornered easily. Enraged by the light and the ancient secret, the entity retaliated with catastrophic force, violently collapsing the surrounding timber infrastructure. Tons of splintered wood and heavy beams crashed down around us, burying the trap and plunging us into an immediate, desperate fight to claw our way out from beneath the crushing debris.
Hearing Madelaine's voice through the token gave us the answer we desperately needed, but the sawmill's collapse nearly took everything. Dust and splintered pine choked the air as Victoria and I fought side by side to dig ourselves out of the wreckage. We are bruised, battered, and running out of time, but we are still breathing—and we know how to end this.
