The captain, first considers that Conan is a disturbing option, a mercenary with legal issues but then he thinks of Bêlit, the pirate queen and considers that Conan could be a riddance, a helping hand that could save them in a dire situation. Well, that though convinced him and a good fight where Conan didn't find a worthy rival.
Conan aboard the ship works as any other sailors until a pirate vessel attacks them. It is Bêlit's ship and they assault easily the trade ship and kills all the sailors. Conan fight bravely, but to no avail. Bêlit finds the appealing of the barbarian an spares his life, offering him to be her mate.
The love relation, so strong and aggressive is one of the most remembered of Conan relations and the only one where Conan feels love for the maiden. They stroke fear into the heart of their victims, all along the Black Coast (a representation of Africa).
All seems to be going according to plan until Bêlit decides to plunder an ancient ruins that they found upstream. There they obtain a great loot, but they also have to fight an strange mixture of hyenas and human beings and a winged monster that in a first round didn't kill them. Some of the pirates succumbed but most survived.
Bêlit finds a nice necklace that the same moment she wears it on, cursed her maddening her. Being the captain of the pirate ship, her decisions endanger their comrades' life. Then the terrible wing monster attacks the pirates and hangs Bêlit by the necklace. Conan tries to kill the monster but he is about to die when the ghost of Bêlit helps him (like in the Conan movie) and the Cimmerian slains the monster.
Now Conan is alone. And that's forever.
