The Ruined Tower

Our party tracked rumors deep into a twilight forest, where they discovered the blasted stone remnants of an ancient tower built into a hillside. As they prepared to explore a heavy oak door buried in the rubble, a pack of four massive, starving giant rats erupted from the debris to defend their nesting ground. With weapons drawn and spells weaving through the air, combat began instantly.
Chaos erupts instantly within the shattered confines of the stone stump. Niles drops low to the flagstones, seamlessly vanishing into the shifting shadows of a mossy stone pillar while the front line clashes with the aggressive vermin. Elanna moves with practiced warrior precision; her massive two-handed sword cuts a gleaming arc through the dark, its heavy crossguard deflecting a snapping, disease-ridden jaw with a violent shower of sparks. Nearby, Darkblade's long bow thrums with deadly resonance, sending an arrow slicing through the air to nail one of the lunging rodents directly to the rotted floorboards in a flurry of screeching fury.
With the remaining beasts completely focused on the loud steel of the fighters, Niles seizes his moment. The clever halfling darts silently behind the largest monster—the scarred alpha of the nest. Timing his strike with lethal perfection as the beast rears back to bite, Niles locks his gaze onto a vulnerable gap in its matted gray fur. He drives his short sword upward with a vicious, twisting thrust, burying the blade deep into the creature's exposed flank. The alpha rat emits a horrific, gurgling shriek before collapsing instantly into the damp leaf litter, leaving the remaining pack disorganized and terrified.
* Attack Roll (d20 with Advantage): Natural 19 + 4 modifier = 23 (Success!)
* Damage Calculation: 5 (Base Weapon) + 6 (Sneak Attack Multiplier) = 11 piercing damage.
* Result: Alpha Giant Rat is instantly defeated.
Seeing their formidable leader slain in a single blinding stroke, the two surviving giant rats break away from Elanna's guard. Hissing in pure terror, they scatter backward toward the dark recesses of the stone rubble, their claws scratching frantically against the granite as they seek an escape route away from the deadly adventurers.
