Reptoids Under Pittsburgh 15 (END)

Reptoids Under Pittsburgh

Session 15: Sunrise Over the Steel City (Campaign Finale)

Posted by The Game Master | Category: Campaign Playthrough

The underworld of Pittsburgh was tearing itself apart. Massive slabs of ancient masonry slammed into the flooding basin where the Hive Queen had fallen. Explosions from the dying nest shot arcs of green fire up through the ventilation shafts. Smoke filled the substation, blindfolding the team as the ceiling threatened to drop thousand-ton iron girders right onto their heads.

“The service hatch is completely buried!” Big Mike shouted, coughing through the dust as a massive rockfall smashed the climbing ropes into threads. “We’re boxed in!”

Through the chaos, Sally’s eyes locked onto an old, rusted industrial freight elevator shaft hanging over the stabilized Duquesne Light power grid. “Over here! Everyone get into the cage!” she roared. Sliding down the scaffolding, she tore open the elevator's master fuse box. It was a complete disaster of fried wires, but with every ounce of experience she had gathered over this terrifying night, Sally knew exactly what she had to do.

📈 Final Campaign Progression: Burning the Remaining EP

The players burn every single remaining Experience Point to maximize their attributes for the ultimate escape check.

  • Sally's Final Level Up: Spends her accumulated 29 EP to boost her Intellect (IT) from 12 → 14. Her brain becomes a lightning-fast biological computer.
  • Danny's Final Level Up: Spends his accumulated 9 EP to sharpen his reflexes, keeping his defense ironclad as the building crumbles around them.

Danny stood at the gate of the shaking iron elevator cage, his shotgun smoking as he pumped final, defensive blast after blast into the dark to deter the last scattering, frantic scouts. “Sally! Take your time, but hurry!” he hollered, shielding her body with his own as concrete dust rained down like winter snow.

Sally didn’t look back. Her fingers moved like a concert pianist’s through the smoking circuit boards. She ripped out a dead transformer core, shoved a bypass copper rod straight through the terminal block, and connected the live 440-volt subterranean feeder cable directly to the manual winch relay.

🎲 The Ultimate Manual Override (Level 3 Campaign-Ending Check - 5d6)

The Stake: Hotwiring a crumbling industrial freight platform under a collapsing city grid. The GM sets it to Level 3 (5d6). Failure means being buried under the North Side forever.

Target: Sally’s newly upgraded Intellect (IT) is 14.

The Dice: [2] + [1] + [3] + [4] + [2] = 12

Modifiers: Her Notice Details (Lv1) talent drops the final total by 1.

Final Total: 12 - 1 = 11

Result: 11 is well under her legendary score of 14. CRITICAL SUCCESS! THE CAMPAIGN IS WON!

With a thunderous, electrical roar, the giant steel cable drum spun to life. Sparks erupted from the housing as the heavy iron cage launched upward like a rocket, tearing away from the imploding substation floor just as the entire cavern fell into darkness beneath them. The elevator accelerated through the concrete shaft, racing the rising shockwave until it smashed violently through the mechanical locks at the very top.

The iron doors burst open, blowing hinges clean off, and the entire team tumbled out into the crisp, cool morning air, rolling onto the gravel of an abandoned lot on the North Side. Behind them, the old service shaft let out a final, muffled thud as the lower tunnels sealed themselves forever, settling deep into the earth.

The sun was just peaking over the golden crest of the 31st Street Bridge, casting a brilliant orange glow across the sparkling waters of the Allegheny River. The skyline of Pittsburgh stood whole, proud, and perfectly illuminated by a fully functional power grid. The city had no idea what had just happened beneath its feet, but it was safe.

Danny lay flat on his back, covered in soot, grease, and river mud. He let out a breathless, booming laugh, turning his head to look at Sally, who was sitting up beside him, her hair messy and her face streaked with black carbon. Without a single word, Danny reached out, caught her hand, and pulled her down into a fierce, triumphant embrace. When they pulled back, Sally didn't hesitate—she leaned in and kissed him, a beautiful, breathless release of all the night's terrifying tension under the golden morning light.

A loud, booming whistle interrupted them. Uncle Morty stood leaning against a chain-link fence, a massive, uncharacteristic grin plastered across his face as he wiped his glasses. Behind him, Carl, Big Mike, and Brenda were actively cheering, Carl clapping Danny forcefully on the shoulder while Brenda threw her arms around Sally.

“I knew your bakery van driving skills would pay off, kid,” Morty chuckled, shaking his head with genuine pride. “You two didn't just survive. You saved the whole damn town. Your parents would have been damn proud. Now come on—the first round of breakfast pastries at the diner is on me.”

Hand in hand, Danny and Sally walked out of the smoke and into the bright Pittsburgh morning, the terrors of the Reptoids finally put to rest.
