Only half a year after publishing Destroyer and a year after Alive!, Kiss was forced to continue to provide songs for radio and for saling of singles. Alive! had been a total success, but it appeared that Destroyer had much sales success (it did not have time to take off and become one of the most sold Kiss' LPs). So in this situation, the band opted for a new album with a different approach to Destroyer. Where the production work had become a experimental work (Destroyer), they returned to more direct and powerful Rock in the style of previous albums to the live LP. Thus was the origin of Rock and Roll Over.
It is arguably not the most popular album of the group, but looking at the songs, one can see that, apart from Calling Dr. Love, is full of songs that are really good. Therefore I recommend a second listening. It sold as well as Destroyer, allowing time for the next album release, following year. No doubt Kiss were hard workers. Imagine that this last two LPs were recorded during breaks from touring, and they were only a few months off-road.
If you want to listen ROCK AND ROLL OVER.
