Tether: Session 15 - The Stranger's Toll & The Final Rite

As I quickly scanned and deciphered Madelaine's remaining field notes by the dim light of our torches, the exact ritual required to sever the entity's connection to Oakhaven finally became clear. But our moment of realization was violently interrupted; the heartbeat-like pulses of the subterranean tunnel walls suddenly accelerated into a terrifying, rhythmic frenzy, forcing my father and me to sprint through the final organic stretch of the passage.
Just as we neared the open chamber of the core, however, our path was abruptly blocked. Emerging from the shadows of the roots stood the mysterious stranger from our earlier encounters, barring the way forward and demanding a heavy, unimaginable toll in exchange for safe passage to the entity's heart.
I know what we have to do now to cut this monster's roots, but the stranger is standing right in our way with demands that could cost us everything. We are so close to the end, yet this final gatekeeper threatens to stop us before we can reach the heart of the dark.
