Perhaps you already know this cartoon. It was an amazing avant-gard production by Chuck Jones. But this is not a Chuck Jones cartoon, at least not only by him. There are a co-director (Maurice Noble) and the screenplay was written with John Dunn as a collaborator.

But the main actor in the show is Mr. Treg Brown, the Sound Effects creator. Mel Blanc as the voice character and short music by Bill Lava.

So, sound is the main character in this show. The devil has losed his left horn and an old Britishman with hard-hearing, changes his little hearing-trumpet for this devil’s horn turned into a listening trumpet.

Then the imagination runs wild. Chuck Jones and John Dunn creates a series of gags so efective that they didn’t need to be finished. As an example, take a good look when the secondary character picks a telephon from the horn, places in and it turns into a shower. The gag follows when the water turns into rain and this character picks an umbrella that transform them both into an space-ship. Amazing!

By the way, it is a cartoon made in 1962 but not released until 1963. It was nominated for best short film (animation) this very year. The winner was The Hole, another incredible cartoon with the voices of Dizzy Gillespie and George Mathews.
