Coraline, the movie.

[via crankycritic]

The Coraline Movie was something that I was really excited about when it was revealed that this animation movie based on Neil Gaiman’s original book and directed by no other than Henry Selick. Everything would be impressive, with that talent in it.

And it was. The movie is as great as Nightmare Before Christmas. Sometimes even better, but I miss this craftsmanship that was so obvious in that movie and in the Corpse Bride. Computers all around, I mean. But it doesn’t matter, it is the sign of the times and I accept it, enjoy it and celebrate it.

Neil Gaiman’s novel was something that I bought from the Previews catalogue and was a new novel by Gaiman, but nothing else. I read it as I read all of them and found it to be one of the best he has ever write. I wait for a comicbook version of course but not for an animation movie.

The comic graphic novel was released close to the movie premiere, this february. P. Craig Russell was the artist who take care of the artistic chores. And I think he didn’t succeed at it. The pictures are amazingly beautiful, as all his other works, but it didn’t fit in the craziness of Coraline.

But the movie did. It fit with the Coraline story so well that now I have a mixture of McKean and Shelick versions in my head. And that is really good.

Here I offer you several videos that could be called “Making of”. Enjoy. They are really something.

"Coraline" Official Trailer

From Henry Selick, visionary director of THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, and based on Neil Gaimans international best-selling book, comes a spectacular stop-motion animated adventure the first to be originally filmed in 3D!

Coraline Jones (Dakota Fanning) is bored in her new home until she finds a secret door and discovers an alternate version of her life on the other side. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life and the people in it only much better. But when this seemingly perfect world turns dangerous, and her other parents (including her Other Mother voiced by Teri Hatcher) try to trap her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination and bravery to escape this increasingly perilous world and save her family.
In Theatres Feb. 6th

Pues aninimaros a verla. No está nada mal. Y la de UP es otra que hay que ver.
