Session 8: The Silent Engine
October the Eighth | The Final Lock
As gravity fails and the world lurches, I find myself pressed against the cold, inverted ceiling, maneuvering through a chaotic storm of jagged debris to reach the engine’s exposed, sparking wiring. I desperately bridge the circuits to stabilize the madness, even as the mirror-reflection steps out from the glass like a stain on reality. Its eyes—hollow and accusatory—demand to know why I constructed this prison, why I would choose to trap us in this mechanical purgatory.
I barely have time to react before the Labyrinth’s security construct awakens—a towering, multi-limbed monstrosity of grinding brass and razor wire. I grapple with the encroaching terror, and in a moment of sheer desperation, I shove the mirrored version of myself directly into the machine’s path. The distraction buys me the heartbeat I need to jam the Override lever into a final, locked position. A deafening, metallic shriek tears through the chamber, and then, sudden and absolute, the Labyrinth plunges into an icy, heartless silence. The machine is frozen, its gears stilled, but as I slump into the wreckage, I realize with a sinking heart that I have merely locked the door from the inside, trapping myself eternally within its cooling, indifferent soul.
