Nació en el Bronx y allí conoció a Blackie Lawless, cantante de W.A.S.P. Toda su familia estaba formada por músicos, por lo que tuvo pocos problemas para aprender a tocar. Ya en Kiss, compuso algunos éxitos y colaboró en los últimos años de su etapa con el grupo con un tercio de canciones de Dinasty y Unmasked. En el año 1982 dejó la banda, también por problemas personales.
Comenzó una carrera en solitario que siempre ha sido exitosa y que sólo abandonó para unirse al grupo otra vez. En la actualidad la ha retomado, con un CD publicado el año pasado.
