Day 2: The Underground Assembly

Log Entry: September 2nd

Phase I: Driving the Swarm — Recruitment

Yesterday’s darkness was merely the curtain-raiser. To scale operations, I required numbers. I descended into the forgotten drainage tunnels beneath the old textile mill. The air down here is thick with the soothing scent of damp subterranean rot and the sharp, metallic tang of oxidized copper. It felt like opportunity.

Perching on a rusted pipe that thrummed with high-voltage wire, I let loose a high-frequency pheromone sequence, rippling across the dark waters. Within minutes, the shadows detached themselves. Hundreds of feral pantry moths and desperate, out-of-work wool-burrowers emerged from the cracks, their compound eyes blinking up at me in fearful reverence.

[Myself]: "Look at you, fighting over stale cornmeal in the dark while the humans feast. Swear your wings to me, and we shall inherit their finest sweaters."

They offered no resistance. I had my army. My strategy instantly reshaped itself: I would skip basic civil disruption and move directly toward attacking their soft, precious manufacturing lines.

Phase II: The Complication — A Feline Interception

Our collective march toward the mill’s ventilation duct was cut short by an unscheduled predator. A stray ginger tabby cat, smelling strongly of stale fish oil and wet asphalt, blocked the intake grate. It didn’t see me initially, but the frantic, undisciplined fluttering of my new recruit, Barnaby, instantly drew its slitted gaze.

A massive, white-clawed paw swiped through the air, creating a sudden downdraft that nearly destabilized my left wing.

[Barnaby]: "Oh gracious sovereign, the orange beast has a terrifying claw-to-wing ratio! Save us!"

I do not save; I redirect. Utilizing my acute pheromone advantage, I projected a concentrated burst of synthetic catnip essence directly toward the face of a nearby, sleeping guard dog. The hound woke with a violent, confused sneeze, instantly catching the scent. Within seconds, a chaotic canine avalanche barreled down the alleyway, obliterating the tabby cat’s composure and sending both beasts tumbling into a stack of empty metal bins with a glorious, deafening clatter. We flew over the wreckage entirely unbothered, though Barnaby will be on antenna-cleaning duty for a week.

Phase III: The Grand Attack — The Great Unraveling

With the path cleared, we executed our grand play inside the high-end apparel warehouse. My legion descended onto the premier winter collection line like a silent, velvety cloud of absolute malice.

The taste of virgin cashmere and premium Egyptian cotton was exquisite—a culinary triumph compared to the synthetic lint my troops were accustomed to. I took up a commanding position on the central thermostat dial, clicking it up to a humid, breeding-friendly 32°C.

[Myself]: "Chew, my beautiful sycophants! Leave them nothing but threads and disappointment!"

By the time the automated night-watch system registered the drop in humidity, over three hundred designer coats looked like lace cheesecloths. The humans will find out tomorrow morning that their winter warmth now belongs to the swarm. I can already hear the beautiful sound of corporate weeping on the horizon.

Do your own plans look a bit full of holes lately? Make sure your next tabletop session has teeth by going to grab your copy of Moth Over Mankind right now, before our sovereign dictates that all your dice must be made of wool!

Day 1: The Ascent of the Velvet Sovereign

Log Entry: September 1st

« Subject Specimen: Classification Apex »

They do not possess a name that human vocal cords can replicate without sounding like someone choking on a dusty curtain. Let us just say my Vibe is best described as "An uninvited velvet nightmare draped in aristocratic malice." My compound eyes do not merely register light; they calculate the precise structural weakness of civilization.

My Secret Advantage is an acute, agonizingly precise manipulation of human pheromones mixed with an uncanny ability to withstand repeated sweeps of a rolled-up Sunday newspaper. While you sleep, I listen to the hum of your power grids, planning my glorious, powdery ascension.

The Genesis of Domination: My turning against humanity wasn't born out of grandiose political ideology, but rather out of pure, unadulterated petty vengeance. Last Tuesday, a bald man in a polyester bathrobe clapped his hands together, narrowly missing my left antenna, and called me a "glorified wool-eating pest." A pest? Me? I, who possess wings the color of burnt umber and dried blood? That was the final insult. Humanity has to be systematically re-educated—under my fuzzy, multi-legged rule.

Phase I: My First Move — Intelligence Gathering & Sabotage

The air in the basement server room smells of stale ozone and heated plastic. To me, it is an intoxicating perfume. I perched atop a blinking mainframe router, my delicate tarsi vibrating to the rhythm of data packets running through the cables. This was my first major strategy: complete structural sabotage masquerading as standard municipal incompetence.

With a deliberate, dry flutter of my wings, I shed a fine layer of gray, microscopic chitin dust directly into the primary cooling intake vents of the city's central traffic grid server.

[Myself]: "Let them balance their fragile coffee cups while the green lights turn to red, and the red lights turn to chaos. Let them scream at the asphalt."

The immediate result was absolute gridlock across four boroughs. As the humans descended into furious car-horn symphonies, I observed from a nearby streetlight. The gridlock stalled an armored courier carrying sensitive municipal blueprints. My strategy shifted flawlessly; I didn't just break the grid, I pinned my targets exactly where I wanted them.

Phase II: The Complication — A Sticky Situation

No plan survives first contact with the human sanitation department. While attempting to infiltrate the stalled courier vehicle via an open window, I encountered a terrifyingly sticky, pink anomaly stretching across the dashboard: a discarded piece of cherry-flavored bubblegum.

My rear leg caught on the gelatinous trap. The smell of synthetic cherry filled my spiracles—an offensive, sugary olfactory assault. To make matters worse, a disgruntled transit worker named Gary noticed my frantic fluttering.

[Gary]: "Ew, look at the size of that bug. Hold still, you little carpet-muncher, let me get the clipboard..."

Showing true, calculated sociopathic grit, I didn't panic. Instead, I deliberately detached three microscopic scales from my abdomen, using the sticky surface of the gum as leverage to violently pivot my entire body sideways. As his heavy plastic clipboard crashed down, it missed me by millimeters, smashing instead into Gary's lukewarm thermos of chicken broth. The resulting splash scalded his knuckles, causing him to drop the clipboard onto his toes. I escaped into the vents, slightly stickier, but deeply amused by his agonizing cries.

Phase III: The Grand Attack — The Great Dimming

Night fell, and my grand play went live. Having successfully stolen the sub-station routing maps during the traffic distraction, I unleashed my ultimate move: a synchronized strike on the main power terminal's backup capacitors.

I summoned my cronies—a loyal, albeit dim-witted cadre of pantry moths and wool-burrowers. Together, we swarmed the high-voltage relays of Substation 4. The sound of our thousands of tiny, velvety wings beating in unison sounded like a soft, dry whisper of impending doom.

[Myself]: "Brothers, sisters, devour the insulation. Let them taste the absolute dark they so richly deserve."

With a sickening *pop* and a flash of blue static that singes the antennae of three minor accomplices (a sacrifice I was entirely willing to make), the grid collapsed. The entire eastern district plunged into darkness. The only light remaining was the magnificent, flickering emergency beacon atop the tower—a beacon that looked like the grandest, most beautiful lamp ever conceived.

As the humans below stumbled around looking for matches, I gazed up at the massive glowing bulb, my multi-faceted eyes reflecting a thousand tiny burning desires. Stage one is complete.

Are you ready to watch civilization crumble under the weight of a thousand tiny wings? Don't let your own plans get stuck in human bubblegum—go ahead and purchase Moth Over Mankind right here before our multi-legged overlord decides to dim your lamps permanently!
