Looking for information on Animalize I found these postcards included in Tourbook 1984. Here in Spain were sold as postcards and I bought them (I think in Discoplay). They helped me to get an idea of how they were physically. No wonder that with makeup Kiss they are to me so different, from another era. Well, a nostalgic moment to share with you.

Gene Simmons picks his favourite Cartoon characters.

[via Kiss Online]

GURPS Third Edition

Steve Jackson is a RPG God, second to Gygax. He wrote in 1986 this version of a RPG and it was so innovative and singular that it did survive all this years being one of the most re-known game system.

GURPS stands for Generic Universal Roleplaying System. In other words, it means it is a versatile set of RPG rules that could be applied to any setting (including other RPGs like White Wolf's Vampire The Mascarade, Voyager and many more).

Before any D&D 3rd Edition Open system, with GURPS you could use your well-known rules to create a new bright idea and a new setting. From a scratch character collection of options to the full adventure in a few minutes.

Although the game book is 250+ pages (but only one!) you could learn playing in no time because at the very begging Steve Jackson and his pals teach you how to play and what are you going to learn. An action provokes a reaction and then an outcome. No more no less (action, reaction, damage or effect).

Your character would be constructed around a number of points (usually 100) that you spent on four Attributes that would be used in a series of Advantages and Disadvantages (costing or adding points, respectively). And that's all. Go straight to the Diner Table and Roll your Dice!

But that's not enough. Many people want more, so Steve Jackson Games gives you more and more rules. Compendium is a book collection (two volumes in 3rd Edition, I don't know in 4th) It spands as much as you like. And always a pleasure to read.

Well, there is much more about GURPS. This time I offer you two sets of links. One with resources and another one with information.Enjoy!

Some resources if you want to play GURPS or you are new to it and want to start:
  1. GURPS Lite. A free boiled-down version of the game. Enough for beginners.
  2. Four Edition information plus information in Wikipedia and RPG Net
  3. Worldbook Index All published sourcebooks.
  4. Character Sheet There is also a program to create your Character and vehicles.
  5. Another Character Sheet. This one could be filled online.
  6. For the GM, here is the NPC Generator

Heaven's On Fire.

Pura juerga.

The only song that it is already played alive from Animalize and one of the funniest of the LP. Pure enjoyment.

Superman II (1980).

In fact, I'm not sure what movie I'm talking about. Lester's version? Donner's version? Extended version? Cutdown version? Superman II is a cult movie, a landmark but a movie that suffered a lot.

First it was shoot along the first Superman (meaning it started in 1977). It took many budget increase that made Warner Bros. producer get nervous. Richard Donner was out and Richard Lester had to finish it. WB were interested in a more joyous movie than the original script was, so Donner didn't like the idea. In the end, he was taken apart from the final shooting and cut.

It had more problems that made the movie a nightmare to everyone involved. After Donner was put aside, some actors went out with the first director. Even Williams declined to compose the second part musical score because he was working in The Empire Strikes Back music. But the problems didn't ended there. Spielberg was the first to release his movie (Riders of the Lost Ark) and although Superman II was released worldwide December 4, 1980, in the USA they waited until June 19, 1981 to present it to the audience.

Well, what's so special about Superman II. Well, it has SUPERVILLIANS! That's right. Luthor is brilliant, but we needed someone equal in power to the greatest superhero of all. And they give him that. Not only one or two, but three enemies (originally four) worthy of their powers.

The movie moves in two separate settings. One showcasing the romance of Clark and Lois and, second, the battle of mighty superheroes. And of course, Luthor all around. What a guy!

I didn't understand why Superman had to loose his superpowers to get "romantically involved" with Lois and why a kiss could made Lois forget that Superman and Clark were the same person. I like, I really do, the fun stuff you could find in this movie, but I love the most the battles. And the battle of wits - including the knowledge of Luthor treacherous manners - that helps Superman defeat his enemies... that's the reason to love this movie.

Well, that and the great Christopher Reeve - Margot Kidder interpretative duel, so vivid and interesting, from the campy Niagara Falls scenes to the Truck-stop Diner scenes, so crude an cruel.

An amazing movie that needs to be revisited.

Superman II ( Trailer ) 1980

Superman II is the 1980 sequel to the 1978 feature film Superman. It was the only Superman film to be filmed by two directors. For this reason the film is surrounded with controversy since original director Richard Donner had completed, by his estimation, roughly 75% of the movie in 1977 before being taken off the project. Many of the scenes shot by second director Richard Lester (who had been an uncredited producer on the first film) in 1979 are refilmed Donner sequences. It was released in Europe and Australia in late 1980 but not distributed in the United States until June 1981.

According to statements by Donner, roughly 25% of the theatrical cut of Superman II contains footage he shot, including all of Gene Hackman's scenes. In 1984, when Superman II premiered on television, 24 minutes were re-inserted into the film (17 mins in US ABC TV). Much of the extra footage was directed by Richard Donner. A brand new re-cut of the film, restoring as much of Donner's original conception as possible, titled Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, was released in November 2006.

Animalize commercial.

I found this Animalize ad at Finnish television. We could notice that they tried to relate Animalize to all LPs from the first era of the band. We don't have yet the Kiss of the eighties at full throttle.

The Sword in the Stone (1963).

My second post of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Cards has a comment by David Ponce that states that Merlin was a cool magician. But it was curious that the great Arthurian mage came to my mind as the lovely Disney's version. So I though that I must post something about this movie.

It is a great movie, not one of the best from Disney, but it was cool to the limit. I didn't have the opportunity of seeing it until I was a grown-up. Back in the pre-VHS era, you have to go to the cinema to see a movie. And this movie was nine years older than I was! So I have to wait to see it at home (first in a VCR and then in glorious DVD). As I could find this VHS was from 1991 (I was 19).

But I had an ally in my childhood. A friend of my grandparents has a daughter that own a copy of the comic (in spanish). They gave me the book as a gift and I read it again and again until I knew it by heart. So when I watched the movie for the first time I was aware of almost anything.

I found in a bakery a tiny Archimedes that I bought to my child a few months ago. It was nice to see that this movie is not forgotten. How cool it could be to be a child that goes to be Merlin's pupil and gets transformed into a squirrel, a fish and a bird. That watch a mighty combat between two of the great magians in a battle of wits and lastly but not least, becomes one of the greatest kings ever. Boy, that was the fabric of my dreams!

It was the last movie Disney himself was involved, just a little before his pass away in 1966. It was curious to see that many Disney movies of that decade came from English background.

To finish the post, here you can se a commercial and the magician's fight scene. Enjoy!

Animalize (1984).

I've Had Enough (Into The Fire).

I really get hooked with Kiss when I heard on the compilation Monstruo 2 the song I've Had Enough (Into The Fire). The titles were wrong and called it Heaven's On Fire, the only song that still plays live on this record somewhat mediocre.

Still very weak as an album, It worked so well that it went on to sell as well as Alive II. Undoubtedly Stanley maneuver of un-makeup plus a touch and Hair Metal from the eighties worked smoothly.

By the way, is the only LP where you can hear the virtuoso Mark St. John. It replaced Vinnie Vincent in April 1984 (the album is from December of that year) and he had to quit for the health problems resulting from reactive arthritis. When he recovered in the nineties he returned to music until his death in 2007.
